CITRINE STONE: ITS HISTORY, ORIGIN AND COMPOSITION, AND ITS LITHO THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES

HISTORY OF CITRINE STONE

Known since 500 BC, citrine stone has been appreciated since Greek antiquity. At that time, citrine was considered a lucky charm, or at least was used to combat evil eye and protect oneself from reptiles. Meanwhile, the Roman Empire used it regularly to craft engraved stones with reliefs such as citrine pendants and cabochons.

The most well-known citrine stone deposits to this date are located in the Antananarivo province in Madagascar. Many other deposits exist in Germany, Brazil, Spain, Austria, The United States and the Czech Republic. However, it is important to be selective as citrine stone is very rare and fake stones sometimes appear on the market. These can be amethysts that, upon exceeding 500 °C in temperature, turn from violet to yellow.

ORIGIN AND COMPOSITION OF CITRINE STONE

Citrine stone belongs to the quartz family and is composed of iron and silicon oxide. Occasionally, it can be found under the name ‘Yellow Hyalin Quartz’. Its small amount of iron oxide gives it its yellow colour. Its name is derived from the Latin “citrina”, meaning lemon, alluding to its yellow colour. Its hardness is index 7 on the Mohs scale, which is relatively rare for a natural stone.

LITHO THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES OF CITRINE STONE

Citrine stone’s primary virtues are of happiness and abundance. This money stone promotes balance as well as concentration. It is an energising stone that strongly boosts creativity. As such, it is a stone that does not need or rarely needs cleaning and recharging as it absorbs and eliminates negative energy. It protects its environment and purifies the wearer whether via a citrine bracelet or another object.

Citrine stone protects the aura by purifying the subtle body and balancing the energies of the physical body. The sacred chakras and solar plexus are the two main chakras which are purified and recharged by this stone. It also opens the crown chakra, to liberate our minds and develop our intuitions.

A crystal of abundance, citrine stone’s prosperity is much exploited in feng shui. It attracts abundance, prosperity, wealth and success. It is a stone that is both fortunate but also generous, encouraging its wearer to share while not losing their wealth. More generally, citrine stone fosters positive behaviour and allows us to remain optimistic and find the best solution for everyone. For example, it allows those who wear a citrine necklace to develop self-confidence and respect for others. In this way, it helps you to overcome phobias and fears.

Physically, citrine stone aids digestion and stimulates the spleen and the pancreas. This stone equally relieves constipation, as well as menopause and menstruation disorders.
