Its hardness is index 7 on the Mohs scale, which is relatively rare for a natural stone.

Looking elsewhere across the globe, it is very easy to find other varieties and agate deposits, particularly in Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, Madagascar or China.
Due to its composition, agate stone belongs to the quartz family and consists primarily of silica forming from volcanic lava. In addition, this stone can consist of water molecules. After eruption, the lava transforms into drops and solidifies into what is known as melaphyre, becoming a mass of quartz. Agate stone’s hardness is between 6.5 and 7 (on a scale of 10) and has a density ranging from 2.58 to 2.64.
