THE AGATE STONE: ITS HISTORY, ORIGIN AND COMPOSITION, AND ITS LITHO THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES
HISTORY OF AGATE STONE
What is known today as agate stone comes from the Achates River in Sicily. In the ancient period, several civilisations (such as the Celts, the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians, etc…) exploited this stone for its properties but also for its natural beauty.
Before the Christian era, between 2500 and 1500 BC, agate stone was primarily discovered and exploited by the Greeks and Romans who commercialised their deposits. It was therefore not unusual to see necklaces, bracelets, objects or even vases made out of this stone. It was in great demand due to its variety of colours and shapes.
ORIGIN AND COMPOSITION OF AGATE STONE
Agate stone has its origins in various countries around the world. Deposits can be found in Germany, Australia (agate varieties with green, yellow, pink, or red stripes) and the United States. Looking elsewhere across the globe, it is very easy to find other varieties and agate deposits, particularly in Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, Madagascar or China.
Due to its composition, agate stone belongs to the quartz family and consists primarily of silica forming from volcanic lava. In addition, this stone can consist of water molecules. After eruption, the lava transforms into drops and solidifies into what is known as melaphyre, becoming a mass of quartz. Agate stone’s hardness is between 6.5 and 7 (on a scale of 10) and has a density ranging from 2.58 to 2.64.
LITHOTHERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES OF AGATE STONE
In litho therapy, agate stone’s primary properties are luck and anchoring. Its properties center around its contribution to physical, emotional and intellectual balance by allowing those who wear it to clear energy blockages. Agate stone helps to stabilise the aura or energy of the physical body.
AGATE STONE’S PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS
Agate stone is a stone which calms anxiety and harmonises yin and yang. It helps every being to gain self-confidence and to accept oneself as they are. It brings courage to the wearer during difficult times. Agate stone offers its litho therapeutic properties of self-analysis and extra-sensory perception. It’s not unusual to see people wearing agate pendents to reap its benefits throughout the day.
AGATE STONE’S ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
Agate stone can also harmonise your home’s energies. Simply placing agate in your home or workplace will grant you its two main properties: calm and luck. Placing agate in the room of someone who is sick will grant them morale and courage.
